i could probably eat pizza everyday. i may have to mix up the varieties, but i could probably eat a pizza in some form on any given day & be a happy camper. but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that pizza is generally not the calorie-counter-health-nut-wannabe's best friend. at least, not most pizzas. but it CAN be. and it could be. and in my mind, it is.
we've made personal pizzas many times using pita bread & it's always delicious. but i needed more. i needed a real crust & real bread to bite my teeth into & maybe even just the feeling of accomplishment from saying i've made a pizza from scratch. so i did.
behold, my first homemade pizza. it started with a blob of dough.
ok, i cheated. sue me. i bought pre-made dough from trader joe's for $1.29. really though? why would i want to make my own when i can see that their's consists of like three ingredients that i recognize & it is {pretty much} all ready to go straight out of the package? i'd be wasting everybody's time if i didn't.
now this is where i get mad. i took all sorts of pizza-making-pictures that were gonna look really cool all side by side. a picture with each layer of food that i layered. but somehow, my computer decided to delete them. we've been having computer issues & i don't wanna talk about it.
but you can probably imagine what happened between these two pictures right? lots of food layering, some
this pizza's ingredients: trader joe's whole wheat pizza dough, trader joe's pizza sauce, mushrooms, sweet italian chicken sausage, greenish/yellowish peppers {i have no idea what that pepper is... sidestory: sam brought home a HUGE box of peppers that a co-worker gave him. and he got them from some farm stand in yakima. i know, it's random}, & cheese. pretty basic. but i do love me a sausage & mushroom pizza... so, so much.
it was freaking delicious. and the amount of flour that i got all over myself while rolling out the dough made me feel super domestic & i looked totally legit. so i will probably never attempt to make my own dough as long as i live. you had me at $1.29, trader joe's.
so this is now becoming a regular thing. and i need suggestions for topping combos to keep the fellas on their toes. i really wanna try a chicken sausage/ricotta cheese pizza. and i might just lick the ricotta off the top of the pizza... that's allowed when you made it, right?
send me your pizza expertise people!
this pizza was parker approved. you can tell because if you look really close, you can see the sauce he's saving for later above his lip. and maybe all over his shirt too.
votes are also parker approved. always.
Well, if there isn't pizza in heaven I'll be in the same place as you, stuffing my face with pizza.
ReplyDeleteI love pizza, count me in if there is a pizza in heaven. thank you!
ReplyDeletePizza is my absolute fav.
ReplyDeleteI'm a TJ's fan but I hadn't ever tried the pizza dough! Thanks - $1.29 is an excellent deal and looks tasty! (Making dough in the breadmaker isn't too difficult though - coming from me who doesn't ever bake. Cooking, no baking.) Now I'm hungry - thanks!
That's awesome! We make pita pizzas and I consider them healthy. ;)
ReplyDeleteugh I love pizza! I like making them at home too it's fun and you know what your putting in it. If we are lazy we head to lowes foods or Samsclub and they sell dough balls (we like the whole wheat ones) now you have me craving pizza
ReplyDeleteWe used to make pizza all the time- we're going to have to break that pizza stone out again sometime soon! And check out Parker's hair!
ReplyDeleteMMMMM! I love pizza!!! I make my own too, and buy the pre-made dough! I need to branch out and put different things on my pizza...all I do is pepperoni cause my oldest likes it! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI love pizza night! Every friday is pizza night at my house. I use rhodes frozen bread loaves. Haha. Total cheater.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness get out of my head! about 2 weeks ago, i bought a packet of yeast all ready to make my own dough and then there i was at trader joe's last weekend and duh! how could i resist? i was going to buy the pizza sauce too, but i didn't. should i get it next time?
ReplyDeletei didn't have a plan for the pizza, but i ended up doing a spin on CPK's BBQ Chicken pizza...i used the TJs chicken mango sausage (sliced and browned up in a pan first) with BBQ sauce on the crust instead of tomato sauce and then the sausage, thin slices of red onion, mozzarella cheese and cilantro. it was killer, but the mango sausage made it a little too sweet. next time, i'll go with just plain grilled chicken breast.
that dough is the best! and i was covered in flour too! how funny that you mentioned that! when i get covered in flour like that, my husband always talks to me in the voice of the swedish chef fromt he muppets....
Yum! I love pizza. It's absolutely my favorite food. My favorite to make is spinach/bacon/garlic with alfredo sauce. Sooo good!
ReplyDeleteMMM!!!! That sounds SO delicious and amazing and yeah...now I'm craving pizza for breakfast haha. I had pizza last night but it was no where near as delicious as yours sounds!
ReplyDeleteRight there with ya! Let me know if you find out. ;)
ReplyDeletethis post totally made me want to go all domestic. :)
ReplyDeleteYour pizza looks delicious! & question, do you live in WA?! Unless you are talking about a different Yakima, my great grandma lived there until she passed away and I grew up not too far from there!! :) Small world...
ReplyDeleteTrader Joe's bruschetta sauce is scrumptious on their pizza dough, topped with some cheese, and GRILLED. yes, grilled! you have to try it. You'll love it.
ReplyDeleteOMG, my fave pizza now is a Mediterranean pizza: hummus spread on the bottom, topped with mozzarella and feta cheeses, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives and tomatoes. Chicken optional. SO YUM! I also love a good Mexican pizza with a black bean spread, topped with a mexican cheese blend, tomatoes, fajita chicken and sour cream.
ReplyDeleteI wish there was a TJ's closer to me so I could try our their dough :(
i am with you on this whole pizza thing... I love it! I am going to have to try trader joe's pizza dough!! I am now extremely excited to go and make pizza! ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks so yummy!!
great idea! i'll have to take a trip to trader joe's soon. i love a good margarita pizza. fresh mozzarella slices, tomato and basil...yum! you can drizzle a little bit of extra virgin olive oil on top.
ReplyDeletebarbecue chicken pizza always good too. add red onions and cilantro. i'm hungry!!
yummmm. i could eat pizza daily too.
ReplyDeleteits pretty sad that there is not a trader joes in utah.
i lllove loading vegis on my pizza. any and all. and extra tomatoes! its amazing. spinach alfredo is top notch too.
I've done chicken, broccoli and mushrooms, but for the sauce I mixed in a little bit of pesto with some greek yogurt. Almost sort of an alfredo style pizza, but you get a lot of protein bang!
ReplyDeleteWow that looks good! I looove pizza too! I've never made my own but I'll give you some of my favorite toppings.
ReplyDelete- BBQ Chicken Pizza w/ red onions!
- Jalapeño, Sausage & Mushrooms!
i wouldn't show this post to my husband as i normally do, why? he hasn't bit his teeth into it for ages. he's allergic to wheat.. i could only have to buy a special pizza bread.. so! enjoy yours...
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to try that pizza dough from Trader Joe's..how long does it take to cook in the oven?
ReplyDelete♥ Kyna
Boo pizza! Thats my 2 cents.
ReplyDeleteWow! That pizza looks and sounds delicious. Although I could totally do without the mushrooms. Definitely not a fan of those. I don't really have any suggestions for you but I'm sure you could find a ton on Pinterest. :D
ReplyDeleteYum! I'm like you and could eat pizza every night, especially homemade. We actually do make a lot of pizza around here (7 and 4 year olds, enough said)! If you don't cake on the cheese, pizza is actually really good for you!
ReplyDeleteI like ricotta with asparagus, Italian blended cheese with black beans (we use different beans instead of meat) and tomatoes, and an all out veggie pizza with tomatoes, beans, sweet corn, broccoli, mushrooms, anything fresh and on hand! And we grind fresh black pepper and/or red pepper on top for a kick sometimes, too.
That pizza looks amazing!! I will definitely have to try it. My husband and I are sticking to a healthy diet and it seems like this could fit in it every now and then!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I used to work at a restaurant and we had a pizza that had artichoke hearts on it and it was delicious! Something to try :)
looks yummy! our fav pizza...
ReplyDeletebbq sauce
mozzarella cheese
bbq chicken slathered in more sauce
pinapple
green and red onion
bacon
I eat the whole thing.
Trader Joe's usually has awesome pizza dough. The wheat dough is our favorite. We like to chop up tons of veggies, stir-fry them and pile them on with mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes. Sometimes we add chicken, sometimes not. What's cool is these ingredients are delicious with regular marinara sauce OR pesto, so you can go either way. If you use pesto, though, be sure to add a sprinkling of pine nuts on top of the pizza. DELICIOUS.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! Pizza in heaven! I love homemade pizza nights, one of my fav!!
ReplyDeleteYumm! I'm craving pizza now! Our favorite has been this recipe (ignore the dough). The sauce is SO worth the extra work! (We used Asiago cheese instead) http://www.peterandrewryan.com/baking/2008/12/pizza-pizza-pizza/
ReplyDeleteYummy! Looks delicious!! I wish we had a trader joes.
ReplyDeleteOh this looks so good!! And I just want to pinch Parker every time I see him, he is so super duper cute!!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteMmmm!
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to try that dough. Must pick some up next time.
We do homemade pizza's on the grill all the time, I love them! It's super easy on the grill too, just evoo each side, get your toppings all ready to go, put the flattened dough on the grill, and once it's crispy, flip and start adding toppings, that way both sides cook and get crispy, but the toppings and cheese melt and cook also. My fav is the margherita, olive oil with fresh basil and tomatoes and mozzarella, yum!
ReplyDeleteand don't forget about dessert pizzas too, they can be super yummy!
Looks very yummy! I love Margherita Pizza (fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and olive oil) and also Barbecue Chicken Pizza (barbecue chicken, red onions, fresh mozzarella, and cilantro). I've gotta get some of that pizza dough!!
