i'm crafty.

so yesterday's post was a little heavy.  let's talk about something much lighter today... like how i've become a crafter.  it's got me feeling like an old lady... but i don't really care.  my mom brought me a hand-me-down sewing machine last week & i'm weirdly excited.

she helped me make a little tablecloth runner thing to get oriented & if anything, i'm more intimidated than before.  setting up the thread, bobbins, sewing corners, figuring out stitch length & all those other things have me thinking i'm in over my head.  but i'm gonna try.  and there was a serious sense of accomplishment when i finished this little tablecloth.  i am so in love with it!  so i'm already trying to figure out what i want to do next.

any ideas?  any hints of where i can find fun beginner projects or patterns?  i'm already thinking curtains, throw pillows, a bunting for p-ray's room, & some other stuff that a girl with a five-year-old's-sewing-ability could do.

i've realized i have a creative monster inside of me dying to get out.  i'm going through crafty withdrawals now that parker's party has come & gone & i became totally obsessed with finding ideas & adapting them to my own theme.  and now i feel even more like a stereotypical mom who "crafts" & "sews" & thinks those things are cool.  which is weird.

but being crafty can be cool, right?  because seriously... how cute is this tablecloth.

how about a vote if you think crafting is cool!  or... even if you don't.

  4. Love that! I think throw pillows next. I've always wanted to make one- especially because most are so neutral to go with furniture. I would make a bright & fun one like your table runner.

  5. My husband and I both learned how to use a sewing machine for lots of projects for our wedding. . .one thing that is a good way to practice getting use to the machine and is fun to make are fabric pennant flags. They look great for parties and events or could be really cute for a nursery decoration. You can see ours from the wedding at: http://www.stylemepretty.com/gallery/gallery/3176

  7. I'm a crafting addict. Give me some fabric and a sewing machine or hot glue gun and I'm a happy camper. There are beginner tutorials out there for everything! all you need to do is google "_________ tutorial" and you'll get a ton of hits. Being crafty is awesome! Love the table runner. Your fabric choice is beautiful! oh, and all the things you put together for Parker's birthday was adorable!

  9. I love it. Many of my hobbies fall into the "little old lady" category, but I love it. Just have to add your own twist. :) I love the tablecloth. That fabric is stellar. As far as being intimidated I'd say just dive in and see what happens (as you already are it seems), but also, a basic sewing book can be helpful to reference as needed.

Also, lots of projects and crafts to get the wheels turning over at craftster.org and oneprettything.com.

Can't wait to see more of your projects. I understand the drive to create.

  10. Crafting IS cool :)
I've spent the last three nights in a row staying up way past my bedtime, hunched over craft projects and practically glueing my fingers together! Ha!
That tablecloth looks amazing! I'm very impressed! Sewing is one thing I just can't do!

  12. I LOVE that table cloth! Super cute!

By the way, share with the YW presidency that I feel absolutely terrible about the whole situation. I may or may not have made a teary phone call to my husband because I felt so bad. Anyway, hopefully it doesn't totally taint the season.

And I'm there every time the YW play, so if you come I'll be there.

  15. Look at you gettin' your craft on. I've always wanted to learn how to quilt, but I think that requires a lot fo excess time I currently do not possess. Thanks for the walking update, nice to know my kiddo isn't the only one completely not interested in walking. Sometimes when we try to practice walking, he'll cross his legs so we're just holding him up. Nice, lol.

  32. love the fabric and the project. great job especially so that it's your first. I think being crafty is the coolest and really a must for moms. There are gonna be many projects you'll be helping P-ray with especially when he is old enough to go to school. You're just preparing yourself for that time that's what I think.
I own a sewing machine ever since we bought our house, I made almost all the curtains in our home, it's easy, straight stitches with rod rings and there you go you can have custom window treatments. I'm excited to see what other projects you will be doing. good luck and happy sewing.
