camera envy

the purpose of this post is two fold:

1. to discuss something that i have been coveting, and
2. to show off a picture of my super cute little guy.

i love taking pictures, i love editing them, i love experimenting with angles, lighting, blah blah blah. but i know nothing about photography, & my camera is mediocre. well, it's not bad by any means... it's just no... nikon d90.

while visiting family a couple weeks ago, my sister & i had a parker photoshoot. the shot below is one of hers. mine isn't even worthy of being in the same post. hers was taken with her nikon d90 dlsr.

so there you have it. i am coveting my sister's camera. anyone have an extra $1,500 laying around you wanna let me borrow?

(i will give you fair warning... you'd probably not get the money back. but the pictures on my blog would most likely start looking amazing...)

  1. Kim is coveting a nice DSLR also. I think we may just start with a Canon Rebel T2i. I just cant gather myself to purchase a camera over $1000. I think you can get the D90 at newegg.com for around a grand also but if you're looking for more lenses it can get speeeeendy.

  2. practicing what you can (you'd be surprised what a p&s can do!) and read up on photography before you buy. save and learn and you'll be ready to shoot away from auto mode when you do get a dslr.

  3. ben,
this is the one i have my eyes on:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-D90-Digital-SLR-Camera-Body-5-Lens-Kit-NEW-/130347737648?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item1e5954a230
check out all the accessories. 5 lenses, 3 filters, 2 8gb sd cards, 2 tripods... etc. etc. etc. for $1,300. it's always on sale for that price.
it's a real company in New York. my sister got hers from them, & when you buy it they actually call you to do the transaction.
she's been super happy with hers, & i really wanna go this route.

  4. I can relate! I've always been a point and shoot girl. My husband has a Nikon D5000. I don't understand it at all. But I want to so badly so that I can take photos that come out better and actually HAVE depth of field. I know I am lucky that at least there is one in the house, but it's sort of useless to me until I figure out how to use it. I am intimidated :-/

  6. You make me laugh! I have not read your blog in a while and now I have so much to talk to you about! How is work going? Will you come and decorate a room for my kids in our new house? What hotel in Portland did you stay in?
You are amazing! And Parker is an adoreable little guy!

  7. Wow, Amy.. glad you like my photos & camera :)

I have to say I LOVE my Nikon and haven't regretted buying it once. I figure since my 'photo-a-day' project is my journal and my family history it is worth it.

Just tell Sam you will be extra good for Christmas and maybe Santa will be generous this year! :D
